Argo® Fresh Berry Scones

  • 2-½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1-½ teaspoon Argo® Baking Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoon cold butter, diced
  • ¾ cup each, fresh strawberries & blueberries
  • 1-½ teaspoon lemon zest
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup Karo® Light Corn Syrup
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 3 tablespoon coarse (sanding) sugar- optional 


  • 1 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Karo® Light Corn Syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk

  • Prep:  Preheat oven to 400.  Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl.  Using a pastry blender or two butter knives, cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse meal.  Stir in berries & lemon zest.  In a separate bowl, combine wet ingredients together, then pour wet mix in with the dry and use a rubber spatula to combine.  Do not overmix!  


  • Combine:  Divide the dough in half (it will be sticky) and place each half on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.  Cut into large circles with a cookie cutter or large cup.  Top with a sprinkle of sanding sugar, if desired.


  • Create:  Bake 14 - 18 minutes, or until edges are golden brown, and set aside to cool for about 10 minutes.  Whisk glaze together in a small bowl until smooth and drizzle over the scones.  Scones are best served warm.
